cabo pulmo snorkeling

Cabo Pulmo Reef Preservation

In 1995, an underwater national park was formed by the Mexican government at the request of the fishing families of the tiny village of Cabo Pulmo. Since then, no fishing or anchoring has been allowed. The reef sprung back to life in an amazing way. Fish returned, spawned, and grew to maturity in huge numbers, along with turtles, dolphins, sea lions, and sharks. Coral and sea life have become incredibly abundant. In addition to the fee Baja Charters pays to the National Park for every guest who visits with us, we also make a donation to the Cabo Pulmo Welcome Center for reef preservation for each of our customers.

Driving Directions from Cabo

Your destination is the Marine Waterfront Hotel on Marina Palmira. Our yachts are located immediately across from the hotel. Coming from Cabo San Lucas, San Jose del Cabo, or along the Cabo corridor, the easiest way to Marina Palmira in La Paz, is to take Highway 19 to Todos Santos. Take the Todos Santos bypass road and continue to La Paz. If you are coming from Los Barriles, your road will merge into the main road coming from Cabo.

When you reach La Paz, it’s still a few miles to downtown. Turn left when you reach the street named 5 February. Proceed straight towards the bay. At the last signal turn right on Alvaro Obregon. In about a mile you will run parallel to the beach and bay. This area is known as the Malecon. (The Beach Walkway) It’s a fantastic place.

Continue about two miles along the Malecon, passing through the remarkable waterfront area, until you see Marina Palmira on your left. At this point, the road has just divided into four lanes. Take the first turn across the green bicycle lane in the middle of the road. If you miss the turn, go slightly past the marina, and take the one-lane turnaround and head back to the middle entry area to the Marine Waterfront Hotel. Parking is free in front of the Marine Waterfront Hotel. Walk straight through the resort property to Captains. (It takes less than a minute.) It is directly across from the Dock 5 gate. Captains’ is a Baja Charters facility where we typically meet with guests before boarding the appropriate yacht.
